This coming semester, the Technion is becoming a living lab, and we invite you to take part in an innovative and intriguing study on walking and walkability on the campus. Want to leave an impact on planning at the Technion? Now is the time to join!
We are looking for volunteers who will install a simple app on their smartphone, which will record their movements around campus during the months of April-August. The app will allow us to map and understand which walking routes are the most popular on campus, and to analyze the extent to which the physical and climatic infrastructure supports and encourages pedestrian movement within Technion City.
All the data collection is completely anonymous, in accordance with strict European privacy protection standards.
Data collection will be carried out using an advanced German app – Motiontag, which has already been used in large-scale studies on walking conducted at leading universities such as ETH and TUM.
Have questions? We’re here: Dr. Or Aleksandrowicz (oraleks@technion.ac.il) or Dr. Sagi Dalyot (dalyot@technion.ac.il).
How to join?
To take part in the study, you need to create a user account in the Motiontag app and link it to our project. The account must be created using this QR code:
Then follow these instructions:
| Please enter an email address and password on the registration screen. If asked, choose the Tech_walk project from the drop-down list. Then, click on the Create Account button at the bottom of the same screen (if the button does not appear on the screen, scroll down a bit – it will be revealed at the end of the scroll). The system will send a confirmation message to the email address you entered. You must enter the message and click on the link in it to complete the registration process. | |
| After confirmation, you will be taken to a new screen confirming that the registration was successful. Then, download and install the app (Android or iOS) via the link to the app store on the same screen. | |
| After installation, run the app and click on the LOG IN button on the login screen. | |
| On the next screen, enter the email address and password you chose, and then click on LOG IN. | |

| A new screen will open where you will be asked to choose the option Allow all the time. | |
| After confirming the setting change, you will be returned to the app to confirm the detection of activity type (walking, running, driving, etc.). Click on ENABLE. | |
| On the screen that opens, click on Allow. | |
| On the next screen, click on ENABLE to confirm system notifications from the app. | |
